Orion S3

With 974 tape slots and up to 21 drives in the base rack,

the ORION S3 is an enterprise library in a class of its own. It scales up to over 8,000 tape locations and combines the experience of tape libraries with modern object store technology. Developed with the precision and reliability as well as the efficiency of experienced engineering companies in Germany. SCALABLE Thanks to its modular design and integrated S3-to-tape gateway, the ORION S3 is easily scalable. Due to its nature, it can be flexibly configured for any application. No matter if more tape slots or more drives. In conjunction with the integrated PoINT Archival Gateway, several ORION systems can be combined into one library. This means that several thousand tape spaces are available. RELIABLE Due to the high quality standard of the two companies BDT and PoINT, the ORION S3 is one of the most reliable tape libraries on the market. Permanent and continuous endurance tests of software and hardware ensure one of the highest quality standards for tape libraries. And if parts do have to be replaced, this can be done in a few minutes. Due to its design, all parts of the ORION can be replaced quickly. Cost-effective One of the greatest strengths of tape libraries is their cost-effectiveness. Compared to other storage media, tapes offer an unbeatable price-performance ratio per terabyte. By combining software (PAG) and hardware (ORION), a cost-efficient and reliable complete solution was created. In addition, there are special maintenance models for the system that are otherwise not available on the market.

The ORION S3 is designed to handle large amounts of data in a rack

In the basic configuration, it holds up to 974 tapes with up to 3 LTO-FH drives in the basic rack. If more drives are needed, the ORION S3 is available with up to 21 LTO-FH drives in the basic rack. Other configurations are of course possible. Depending on the application, more drives or more tape slots can be configured. The PoINT Archival Gateway as an integrated S3 head scales the ORION S3 to over 8,000 tape storage locations.
