How to erase a Data tape
We take a look on the Whiteboard about why and the various method of erasing a magnetic tape. We then demonstrate using the mt command on both Linux and Windows 11 with Cygwin to erase both a 9 track tape and LTO tape.
We demonstrate a quick erase and how to get can be read back, we also show how to carry out a full erase.
We use DD to read and write text records to both the LTO tape and 9 track tape.
